DuWayne L. Rickerd
April 20, 1935 - October 31, 2019
DuWayne Lee Rickerd, 84, of Deshler, Ohio passed away Thursday evening, October 31, 2019 at Bridge Hospice Care Center, Bowling Green, Ohio.
He was born April 20, 1935 in St. Joe, Indiana to the late LeeRoy and Inez L. (Reinhart) Rickerd. His family moved to Deshler in 1945 due to his father working on the railroad. He was baptized and confirmed on August 8, 1954 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Deshler. DuWayne graduated from Deshler High School and then served his country in the U.S. Army, having been stationed in Germany for 19 months.
On October 20, 1956 he married Delores Mahlmann at Immanuel Lutheran and they have shared a devoted 63 years together.
DuWayne worked at the former Deshler Products/Sherwin Williams for 36 years. While in High School he took a correspondence course in Art Instruction and that catered to a lifetime passion for painting and cartoons. He operated his own sign business, offering his skills for almost any project. His work could be seen marking local business, at the ballparks, on farming equipment and semi-trucks; it truly seemed to decorate the Village of Deshler and surrounding area. He also entertained us with his creative cartoons and good-natured humor in the local newspapers.
He always remained a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where he served on the church council, was treasurer, usher and Sunday school treasurer. He was a past member of the Deshler Lions Club.
He will be remembered and cherished as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather. He was a friend to many and will never be forgotten for his colorful sense of humor.
DuWayne is survived by his loving wife, Delores; daughter, Deborah (Tim) Glore, Hamler, Ohio; son, David (Judy) Rickerd, Cincinnati, Ohio; 5 grandchildren, Jill (Dustin) Grime; Stephanie (Drew) Glover; Adam (Sara) Glore; Rachel Rickerd; Olivia Rickerd; 11 great grandchildren, Myles; Reese; Austin; Henry; Charlie; Layla; Bronzen; Sienna; Alexa; Knox; Rhylee; sisters, Donnis Siferd, McComb, Ohio and Troas (William) Williams, Findlay, Ohio.
