Richard "Dick" Swain
February 19, 1949 - September 18, 2019
Richard Allen "Dick" Swain, 70, of Hamler, Ohio passed away just after midnight on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at the Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay, Ohio. His children were by his side.
Richard was born February 19, 1949 in Findlay, Ohio to the late Kenneth and Patricia (Morehead) Swain. The Swain household had a total of 7 children, Dick and his brother Bob were the first of two sets of twins.
Dick was a 1967 graduate of McComb High School, where he excelled at sports, was a well liked classmate and friend. After graduation, Dick served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was an aircraft mechanic and served on the U.S.S. Kitty Hawk. He remained a proud veteran throughout his lifetime. He was a member of the VFW Post in McComb and the Deshler American Legion Post #316.
Dick worked for over 14 years with DTI Railroad. He spent many years driving truck for Mennel Milling in Fostoria, Ohio and also worked at TJD Industrial Maintenance, Findlay. He was a former member of Maranatha Bible Church, Van Buran, Ohio.
Dick enjoyed many things in his life. He enjoyed many years owning and riding a Harley Davidson Motorcycle. Later he would somewhat settle in and lived next to the Patrick Henry Schools. Here he enjoyed many years watching the sporting events, interacting with the faculty, students and parents. He was often seen driving his golf cart over to the campus and spent many days visiting. He became a good neighbor and fan to the school, but he remained faithful to his McComb Panther roots. He also enjoyed Hamler and would often take the mile drive into the village on that same golf cart to visit and conduct business.
However, Dick was proudest of his family. He was never short for words about how important his family was to him. He could recall many good stories about the Swain family, but most often he was talking about how proud he was of his children and his grandson.
Dick is survived by his children, Tammie (Steve) Milot, Southgate, Michigan; Brandi Swain, Findlay, Ohio; Brian Swain, Virginia Beach, Virginia; grandson, Gavin; brothers, Robert (Lou) Swain, Whidbey Island, Washington; Dean (Jackie) Swain, McComb; Larry (Deana) Swain, Charleston, South Carolina; Gary Swain, McComb; sister, Sharon (Dennis) Howdyshell, Rochester Hills, Michigan and faithful feline companion, Smokey.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Dale "Pickle" Swain.
