Obituary

Brenda J. Liwo

October 2, 1941 - July 27, 2023

Brenda Joyce Liwo “B’da”, 81, of Walbridge, OH, passed away Thursday evening, July 27th, 2023 while in the ICU at Mercy St. Vincent Hospital, after she became overwhelmed by several other physical issues following a successful heart procedure.

She was born Oct. 2, 1941 Crummies Creek, Kentucky to Virgil and Jincie Long, later moving to northwest Ohio as a young child. As she moved through her teen years, she developed a love of music and dancing while taking lessons at Arthur Murray dance studios. She attended Maumee schools and Scott High School.

While working at the 20’s as a dancer, she met her husband Ron in 1965. They loved going to music venues in Detroit seeing many of the Motown greats! After her career as a dancer, she went to work as a cocktail waitress at Top of the Tower in Toledo. There she met several celebrities such as Gordon Johncock (Indy race car driver) and Jesse Owens (Olympic Athlete) to name a few. After Top of the Tower closed, she settled down and married Ron Liwo in 1976 and became a stay at home mom to a set of twins and her two older children. Over the years she became a caregiver to her parents and mother-in-law. Some of her hobbies were listening to music, dancing, decorating for holidays, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Brenda had a great sense of humor and she always seemed to make a new friend wherever she went. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Brenda is survived by her husband of 47 years, Ron Liwo; brother, James V. Long; children, Patty (Robert III) Herrick, Edward (Twila) Harger, Chandra (Brian) Amer and Ron Liwo, Jr; grandchildren, Sean (Amber) Harger, Lauren Liwo, Ashley Amer and Lydia Liwo; great-grandchildren, Sebastian Harger, and Baby Harger on the way; niece, Bobbi Long and nephew, James Long, and extended family in Evarts, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Jincie Long.

A special Thank You to the team at DaVita Maumee Bay Dialysis in Oregon, Ohio and Mercy St. Vincent Hospital ER and ICU staff that cared for Brenda in her final days.
