Darrell G. Erford
October 13, 1950 - September 8, 2023
Darrell Gene Erford, 72, of Hamler, Ohio passed away Friday, September 8, 2023 with his family by his side at Advanced Specialty Hospitals of Toledo.
He was born on October 13, 1950 in Lima, Ohio to the late Reynold and Opal (Kinsel) Erford.
Darrell was a member of the last graduating class of Hamler High School in 1969. Before graduating, he enlisted in the Ohio Army National Guard and served 6 years as a Military Policeman.
On April 19, 1975 he married Theresa (Okuly) Erford at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in New Bavaria, Ohio. Together they have shared over 48 years.
Darrell drove truck for over 20 years with Viking Trucking, Ridgeville Corners, Ohio. Prior to that he worked for over 15 years at the former Brubaker Turkey Farms, Hamler. He retired in 2019.
He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Hamler and the Warren L. McIntire American Legion Post #262.
Darrell enjoyed being outdoors. At home he was very proud of his vegetable and flower garden and tending to his many bird feeders. For over 20 years his family camped at Sunny's Campground, Wauseon. These activities led to a happy social life. He would love to drive his golf cart around the campground or through Hamler. He never knew a stranger and would just stop to talk to anyone in his path. This led to him sharing his fresh produce and meeting new friends. His friendly personality will be missed by all who shared one of these moments with him.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa; daughter, Jennifer (Charlie) Bates; son, Kyle (Melissa) Erford; grandson, Seth Erford; step-grandsons, Adam (Shannan) Bates and Evan Bates; step great grandson, Liam; brothers, Terrence (Shelia) Erford; Dennis (Marlene) Erford; Douglas (Betty) Erford; Dane (Diane) Erford; Keith (Luana) Erford; sisters, Sandra (Robert) Preston; Patricia Schuette and Karen (Kenneth) Bunke.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Reynold and his parents.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2023 at St. Paul Catholic Church, Hamler with Fr. Nicholas Cunningham officiating. Graveside services with military honors will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Tuesday at Feehan-Rodenberger Funeral Home, Deshler and from 9:30-10:30 a.m., Wednesday at the church.
