Dennis "Denny" Panning Obituary

Dennis A. Panning
August 4, 1956 - September 23, 2022

Dennis “Denny” Arthur Panning, 66, of Deshler, Ohio passed away Friday, September 23, 2022 surrounded by the comfort of his family at the Bridge Hospice Care Center, Bowling Green, Ohio.
He was born August 4, 1956 in Findlay, Ohio to the late Martin and Mildred (Petersen) Panning.
Dennis was a 1975 graduate of Patrick Henry High School.  In his younger years, he worked at the former Dekalb Hybrids of Deshler and was a mechanic for Gerken Paving.  Then a lot happened for Denny in 1979.  On May 19, 1979 he married his loving and devoted wife, Rebecca “Becky” Glore at Hope Lutheran Church, Hamler.  Later that year, after buying his first backhoe, they opened Dennis Panning Excavating.  Today the business is known as Panning Excavating with their three sons involved in the daily operations.  Denny also enjoyed a lifetime as a farmer; starting out with his father and then taking over the care of the family farm.
Dennis was a gracious volunteer of his time and talents to his local community.  He took on many projects and jobs to help improve the Village of Deshler.  He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and served on church council.  He was an elected Bartlow Township Trustee since 1994 and served on the Woodlawn Cemetery Board.  He was a member of the Corn City Fire District Board and the Henry County Chapter of Pheasants Forever.
When not hard at work, Dennis spent many years with his father and brother, Jim dealing with Belgian Horses.  They were raising them, selling them and showing them off at many local fairs and parades.  While raising his own boys, together they spent several years in Iowa on pheasant hunting trips.  Alongside his wife, he enjoyed driving and taking many day trips to stumble on a flea market or antique shop.  His family will remember him for his hard work ethic and support; his love of his grandchildren and his welcomed sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife , Becky; three sons, Nicholas (Kari) Panning; Nathan Panning (Sarah Panning); Nelson (Amanda) Panning; five grandchildren, MaKayla; Marshall; Mason; Oliver; Andersen; brothers, Ronald (LouAnn) Panning; James (Jean) Panning; Larry (Karen) Panning and sisters, Diane Hastedt; Joanne (Scot) Werling and Barbara (Doug) Crow.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Matthew Carter Panning.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Deshler with Pastor Christopher Walter officiating.  Graveside services will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Deshler.
Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Tuesday at Feehan-Rodenberger Funeral Home, Deshler and from 10-11 a.m., Wednesday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Corn City Fire District.
