Donald “Tuner” Tussing
August 2, 1934 – December 1, 2020
Donald “Tuner” Tussing, 86, of Deshler, Ohio passed away early Tuesday morning, December 1, 2020 at CHP Defiance Inpatient Hospice Center, Defiance, Ohio.
He was born August 2, 1934 in Deshler to the late Pete and Vivian (Zollars) Tussing. On December 28, 1952 he married Carolyn (Wiedenroth) Tussing at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Deshler.
Tuner was a 1952 graduate of Deshler High School. He was a skilled carpenter and worked for over 40 years at the former Deshler Lumber Company. Always a hard working man, he supervised many building crews over the years.
Tuner volunteered a lot of his time and talents to the betterment of his friends and neighbors. He was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church; a proud volunteer fireman with Deshler Volunteer Fire Department; member of the Bavarian Club and active in the Patrick Henry High School Athletic Boosters. He was elected as a Deshler Village councilman and then served multiple terms as the Mayor of Deshler.
Tuner was devoted to his family. They remember him as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He looked forward to attending the next sporting event or crafting the next woodworking project for the next generation of the family. He made many clocks and 10 beautiful baby cradles.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Carolyn; children, Doug (Joan) Tussing, Port Charlotte, Florida; Sue (Doug) Krauss, Archbold, Ohio; Mark (Robin) Tussing, Deshler; 7 grandchildren, Andrew (Danielle) Tussing; Anne (Tony) DeGiralamo; Laura (Rob) Price; Tim (Jodi) Krauss; Amy (Todd) Huff; Renee (Jason) Walgrave; Heather (Todd) Albright; 17 great grandchildren, Anthony Tussing; Lydia, Leah, Michael DeGiralamo; Quin, Avery, Jackson Price; Trey, Ethan Krauss; Hailey, Hudson, Hunter, Haddie Huff; Andrew, Caroline Walgrave; Dominic, Savannah Albright; brother-in-law, Louis Bremer and sister-in-law, Johanna Georgeff.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Joyce Bremer; Marjorie “June” Salisbury; brother, Robert “Bud” Tussing and an infant great grandchild, Hayden.
Due to public health concerns, there will be no public services at this time. The family will have a celebration of life next summer. The family suggests memorials to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Deshler Firemen’s Association or CHP Defiance Inpatient Hospice Center.
