Dr. Paul Prol Obituary

Dr. Paul J. Prol

October 21, 1946 - April 7, 2023

Dr. Paul John Prol, 76 of Grand Rapids, Michigan, peacefully passed away Friday morning, April 7, 2023, at his cottage.

He was born on October 21, 1946 in Paterson, New Jersey to the late Elbertus J. Prol and Ruth J Prol (Verblaauw).  On August 20, l971, he married his college sweetheart Lois Jean (Haas) Prol at Westhope Bible Church, Westhope, Ohio.  They have shared 51 years of marriage together.

Paul was a baptized member of Franklin Lake Netherland Reformed Church, Franklin Lakes, N. J., and attended Eastern Christian Schools.  Following high school, he worked at Bendix Corporation as a draftsman to support his mother and help his brother through college.  In 1968, he attended The King’s College in Briarcliff Manor, N. Y. and met Jean, his companion and best friend through life.  Following graduation, he received a teaching fellowship at Rutgers University and taught various Anatomy and Physiology Courses while he studied for his M. S. and Ph. D.  For most of his adult life, he had wanted to be a Chiropractor, so he received a teaching position at National College of Chiropractic, Lombard, Ill., to teach while he studied Chiropractic. He graduated in 1978, and established Prol Chiropractic Clinic on Cascade Rd. in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Jean decided to work in the office to get him started, but ended up staying and working with him until he closed the practice in 2020.

Paul loved music, especially the Dutch Men’s Choirs and he would sing along.  He also enjoyed travelling, especially road trips, boating, and doing projects and being at their cottage on White Lake, Montague, Michigan.

He is survived by his wife, Jean, sister-in-law, Ann Prol and nephew, Timothy.  He is also survived by Jean’s family, sister-in-law, Joyce Snider, brothers-in-law, J. Gordon Haas, Lyndon (Ginger) Haas and John (Sandra) Haas and several other nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Deborah and his only brother, Elbertus J. Prol, Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 14, 2023 at Feehan-Rodenberger Funeral Home, Deshler, Ohio.  Graveside services will follow at Milton Township Cemetery, Custar.
