Elizabeth "Betty" Schlotterbeck
Elizabeth (Betty) L. (nee Ide) Schlotterbeck, of Largo, Florida and formerly from Deshler and Findlay, Ohio, passed into eternal life on Monday, February 8, at Cypress Palms Assisted Living Facility, Largo, FL at age 104.
Betty grew up in Ohio and lived most of her life there until moving to Florida in 1995 to be near her daughter, Kristin Campbell (Charles), who survives her. She is also survived by her son, James Schlotterbeck (Barbara) of Weaverville, NC, 8 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister, Ruth Hood, of Jackson, Michigan, as well as nieces, grandnieces, nephews, grandnephews and her beloved faith family.
Much of Betty’s childhood was spent in Hamler, Ohio where her father, G.J. Ide, was a Lutheran pastor. Her husband, Paul J. Schlotterbeck, a former Henry County teacher, preceded her in death as well as all six of her brothers.
Betty was active in her churches both in Ohio and in Florida. Besides mending paraments and creating worship banners, she was actively making Lutheran World Relief quilt tops until she was 102, when she taught her caregivers how to carry on the torch. Betty graduated from Hamler High School in 1934 and recently made a video appearance at her 85th high school reunion. She graduated from BGSU and was an elementary school teacher, beginning her career in a one room school near Hamler, Ohio.
