Faye L. Sterling

March 22, 1930 – January 2, 2022

   Faye Louise (Franz) Sterling, 91, of Toledo, Ohio passed away early Sunday morning, January 2, 2022 at the Elizabeth Scott Community of Maumee, Ohio.

   She was born on March 22, 1930 in rural Deshler, Ohio to the late George Ferdinand and Clara (Meyer) Franz.  Faye was their 9th born and the last surviving child of 12 children.

   She graduated from Deshler High School and attended Bowling Green State University and received her teaching certificate.  For a short period of time she taught elementary school.  She would also work for the former Rossford Ordnance Depot and at the former Lasalle’s Department Store, Toledo.

   On January 6, 1951 she married another Deshler native in Lewis Sterling.  They were married in Indiana, and shortly after, Lewis was serving his country in the Korean War.  Over the years, they were pretty inseparable and even though they lived in Toledo, they stayed close to their Deshler roots and the Franz family.  They always found time for the significant family events and occasional visits.

   Faye was faithful Methodist most of her life and her greatest passion was genealogy.  She enjoyed tracing her family’s heritage and would frequent court houses and libraries to gather her information.  She was the Franz family historian.  She will be greatly missed and remembered as a loving wife; sister, aunt, cousin and friend.

   She was preceded in death by her 11 siblings, Almeda (John “Mick”) Osborn; Hazel (Jay) Weaver; John (Marguerite) Franz; Robert (Lelah) Franz; Harold “Skeet” (Frances) Franz; Janet (Edward) Saneholtz; Dale Franz; Earl “Scrammy” Franz; Lois (James) Thomas and infant twin sisters, Darlene and Marlene Franz.

   She is survived by her loving husband, Lewis; sisters-in-law, Irene “Sis” Franz (Dale’s wife) and Evelyn Franz (Earl’s wife); and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

   Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at the Woodlawn Cemetery, Deshler, Ohio with Pastor Richard Betts officiating.

   Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor’s choice.
