Frederick “Fred” Hill
October 31, 1944 – March 9, 2023
Frederick Henry Hill, 78, of Marion, Ohio passed away peacefully Thursday, March 9, 2023 at his residence.
He was born October 31, 1944 in Malinta, Ohio to the late George and Cora (Flint) Hill. He was raised in a family of 11 children. He is survived by two sisters, Doris Ann Rippee and Janet “Skinny” Scott and a brother, Larry (Ruthie) Hill. He was preceded in death by two brothers, William Hill; Bernard “Hunky” Hill; and five sisters, Lois Mahnke, Shirley Boyett, Bonnie Shafer, Becky Martinez and Eunice Hill.
Fred worked for over 40 years as a heavy equipment operator. He worked for Miller Brothers of Archbold, Ohio and was a member of Local 18 Operating Engineers Union. A hard working man and loyal employee, he would often recall his experiences in the construction of many main highways and overpasses throughout Northwest Ohio.
On February 18, 1995 he married Evelyn (Ganger) Hill and his loving wife survives. He was previously married to Mary (Andrew) Krogman (Deceased) and that marriage blessed him with seven children: Sherrie (Eldon) Kruse, Frederick Henry (Mary Jo) Hill, Jr., Sandra Hill, Toni (Matt) Lanzer, Susan Hill (Deceased), Michael (Tessa) Hill and Matthew Hill (Deceased); 13 grandchildren, Aaron Kruse, Austin Kruse, Justin Hill, Toby Hill, Bradi Hill, Shailyn Hill, Kijano Hill, Senna Lanzer, Tara Lanzer, Damian Lanzer, Eli Hill, Aaron Hill, Alex Hill; 14 great grandchildren, George Kruse; Mason Kruse; Charlotte Kruse; Ethan Kruse, Maverick Kruse; Griffin Hill; Jaxson Hill; Dawson Hill; Keegan Hill; Kendall Hill; Zoey Hill, Whitley Hill, Akevian Kryder, Alahkai Kryder, Kaijana Kryder (Deceased).
He was also blessed with Evelyn’s family which included three stepchildren: Steve Moystner, Brian Hoffman, Lisa Hoffman (Deceased); 10 step grandchildren, Christina Skellie, Brandon Hill, Coltlin Jolley, Johnathan Hoffman, Megan Hoffman, Tiffany Hoffman, Jacob Hoffman, Stephanie Moystner, Shawn Moystner, Jazmyn Cole; 6 step great grandchildren, Kashlyn Skellie, Emberlin Sadier, Jackson Hoffman, Layla Hoffman, Quinn Hoffman, Karlie Hoffman.
After retirement, Fred enjoyed meeting his friends for morning coffee and using his carpentry skills to create several unique items for his family or to sell at craft shows. Family was always very important to him and he showed this in his consistent kindness and unconditional love.
Public graveside services will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Florida Cemetery, County Road 17C, Florida, Ohio. A fellowship luncheon will follow at Florida United Methodist Church.
