Gilberto "Gilbert" Gonzales

   Gilberto "Gilbert" Gonzales, 88, of Hamler, Ohio passed away Monday, July 4, 2022 at Promedica Toledo Hospital, Toledo, Ohio.
   He was born March 29, 1934 in San Benito, Texas to the late Marciano and Clara (Rocha) Gonzales.  On May 11, 1958 he married Myrthala "Tala" (Garza) Gonzales and they were married for 61 years.
   Gilbert graduated in 1952 in Harlingen, Texas and served his country in the U.S. Army.
   He worked at General Motors in Defiance, Ohio for over 36 years, retiring in 1999.  He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Hamler, Ohio and UAW Local #211, Defiance.  He completed the Millwright program at General Motors and achieved Auto Body Technician Certification offered by Findlay University.  His passion was fixing “anything and everything”. His favorite sayings were “there is always more than one way to solve a problem” and “when you are working on anything, always analyze the job, lay out your tools and take your time”.

   He is survived by his children, Cynthia (Eliseo) Melchor of Perrysburg, Ohio; Gilbert Gonzales, Jr. (Robert Larkin) of Upper Arlington, Ohio; and Joey John Gonzales of Hamler, Ohio; grandchildren, Zoey Gonzales, Rafael Gonzales, Lorenzo Melchor, Martina Melchor and Mystee Pike; 4 great grandchildren; brother, Omar Gonzales; sisters, Maria Elena Canales; Noemi Garza; Sandra G. Villarreal and Ruth Garcia.

   He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife; grandson, Crescencio Melchor; sisters, Delia Gavera; Rosa Juarez; brothers, Marciano Gonzales; Hector Gonzales; Joe Gonzales and an infant sister.
   A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at St. Paul Catholic Church, Hamler with Fr. Nicholas Cunningham officiating.  Graveside services with military honors will follow in St. Paul Catholic Cemetery, Hamler.
   Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday at Feehan-Rodenberger Funeral Home, Deshler and from 9:30-10:30 a.m., Monday prior to the mass in church.
   Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Paul Catholic Church.
