Greg A. Shidler

“Honey I’m Home”
Greg Alan Shidler, 60, of Deshler, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 in his home surrounded by his family and friends.
He was born on August 2, 1964 in Bowling Green, Ohio to the late Kenneth and Diane (Myers) Shidler. Greg always honored his parents and was grateful for being raised in a loving home. His stay-at-home mother cared for him and his sister and prepared delicious meals. His father worked hard to provide and was always there to enjoy the family.
Growing up he was active in 4-H and was a 1982 graduate of Leipsic High School. He formerly worked for the Village of Deshler in the Water Department and then worked for the former Claude Sintz factory in Deshler.
Greg created a love for many things. He became an avid gun enthusiast and collector. He would occasionally hunt small animals, but his biggest thrill was just shooting them. For many years he enjoyed racing. It began with go-cart racing. SYS Racing (Sharpe-Yarnell-Shidler) was a partnership filled many hours of fun at the Yarnell Bros. Mill racetrack. He eventually graduated to bigger things and that included sprint cars and dirt tracks. He watched countless races at Eldora and LimaLand and worked on several pit crews.
After many years of being ornery and fast, Greg may have settled down a bit. He became a driver and merchandise handler for the popular local band, Nashville Crush. He traveled with them for well over 10 years and his friends even visited him this past Saturday for a private concert. Greg started buying JEEPS. He would take the top off, doors off and just cruise. It was better when the JEEP was full of kids, grandkids and friends. When the JEEP was too much, he preferred his best friend Ed’s golf cart. The routes were all the same, around town and checking in on family and friends.
Greg was a die-hard fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Michigan Wolverines, GO BLUE! He loved food and eating out. He particularly liked the Royal Buffett in Findlay, but during his cancer treatments, he took it upon himself to stop and try new places he could share with his family. Many will never forget his loud laugh, his dirty sense of humor and his nickname “shithead”.
Throughout it all, he loved his family the most, loved spending time with them and nothing made him happier than a smile on their face.
Greg is survived by three children, Lacey (Josh) Powell of Deshler; Lindy (Kenny) Brand of Deshler and Jake Shidler of Gibsonburg, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Marlee Powell; Brezlee Powell; Grady Powell; Kyla Wilson; Konlee Wilson; Wyatt Brand; Kestlee Brand; Delanee Brand and Rowyn Shidler; a sister, Pam (Mike) Knueven of Deshler; an exchange student sister, Kirsi (Juakka Oikarri) Poyhonen of Finland; his niece, Sadie Knueven; his best friend, Ed Kaetzel; special caregiver, April Shidler; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and friends.
A celebration of Greg’s life is being planned for the summer of 2025 and will be announced at a later date on this website and facebook.
