Hildegard "Kate" Meyer Obituary

Hildegard "Kate" Meyer
December 15, 1930 - January 3, 2025

Hildegard "Kate" Meyer, 94, of Deshler, Ohio passed away surrounded by her loving family on Friday afternoon, January 3, 2025, at Vancrest of Holgate, Ohio.
She was born on December 15, 1930 in Napoleon Township, Henry County, Ohio to the late Alvin and Alvina (Miller) Bostelman.
On December 19, 1948, she married Robert Meyer at her home church, Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Okolona, Ohio.  They settled in Bob's hometown of Deshler, Ohio and they started their family together.  They raised 5 children and welcomed the next generation of grandchildren.  As a family, they were faithful members of Immanuel Lutheran Church and she was a member of the Women of the ELCA.  Kate worked for a short time at the former Metal Forge factory until she left to devote herself to her husband and the family farm.  She was meticulous with farm records, grain prices and helping wherever she was needed.  After 46 years of marriage, Bob preceded her in death on November 2, 1995.
After Bob's passing, Kate remained a loving mother and thrived in her role as grandmother and great grandmother.  She loved going to all her grandkid's events and filling their lives with memories.  She will be remembered for her love of playing cards, casino trips, garage sales and her journaling.  Perhaps most important was her famous sugar cookies.  These were constantly sent home with her family, given to neighbors and her love and kindness made her a "Grandma to all."
She is survived by four children, Peggy (DeWayne) Wendt; Denny (Debra) Meyer; Susan (Brent) Reese; Michael “Monk” (Joan) Meyer; daughter-in-law, Kim Meyer; 13 grandchildren, Doug (Stephanie) Wendt; Brad (Mary Beth) Wendt; Katie (Andrew) Kuhn; Nicole (Kirt) Wells; Ajay (Emily) Meyer; Kevin Reese; Kyle (Haley) Reese; Tyler (Cathy) Meyer; Trent (Courtney) Meyer; Taylor (Brian) Yarnell; Tori (Mike) Herzog; Hillary (Anthony) Kaufman; Heidi Meyer; 2 step grandchildren; Shyanna (Wes) Vestal; Ralph (Shannon) Luna; 35 great-grandchildren; 7 step great-grandchildren; 2 step great-great-grandchildren; step sister, Ruth VonDeylen and sister-in-law, Lois Bostelman.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Scott Meyer; stepmother, Helen Hurst; brothers, Walter; Albert; Melvin and Edgar Bostelman; sister, Nettie Homan and step brother, Lawrence Hurst.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Deshler with Rev. Christopher Walter officiating.  A fellowship luncheon will immediately follow the services in the church hall.  Graveside services will follow the luncheon at Woodlawn Cemetery, Deshler.
Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Tuesday, January 7, 2024, at Feehan-Rodenberger Funeral Home, Deshler and from 10-11 a.m., Wednesday at the church.
The family suggests memorials to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Henry County Cancer Care or Putnam County Hospice.
