Jose "Joe" Sauceda
March 25, 1934 - July 25, 2023
Jose "Joe" Sauceda, 89, of Hamler, Ohio passed away peacefully on Tuesday night, July 25, 2023 at Vancrest of Holgate.
He was born on March 25, 1934 in Carrizo Springs, Texas to the late Seberiano and Francisca (Carmona) Sauceda.
In 1955, Joe moved to Hamler, Ohio and within a week he began working 2nd shift at GM Powertrain in Defiance, Ohio. Joe was drafted by the US Army and served his country from 1956-1958. He returned from military service and continued to work at GM. He retired in 1991 as a quality inspector after 36 years of loyal service. In 1970, Joe started the Mi Tierra Carry-Out in Hamler and offered many authentic Mexican items and groceries until its closing in 1993.
On October 4, 1976 he married Dolores (Champion) Sauceda and they enjoyed over 39 years of marriage before Dolores passed away on December 21, 2015.
Joe and his late wife enjoyed dancing and listening to Spanish music, going to casinos and playing Bingo. They would also take several trips to visit family members in Texas.
He was a faithful member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Hamler and served on church council and was a eucharistic minister. He was a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 1757, Ottawa, Ohio. He was also a member of UAW Local 211.
He is survived by his stepchildren, Roberto (Lola) Garza; Rodolfo (Debby) Garza; Frank (Ondrayah) Garza; Gloria (Mike) Benson; Edward Garza; Jaime Garza; David Garza; Joseph (Anja) Garza; Belinda Murphy; Lily (Shawn) Hester; 32 step grandchildren; many step great grandchildren and step great great grandchildren; brothers, Dario (Marta) Sauceda; Jesus Sauceda and dear friend, Donnie (Elissa) Carrizales.
He was also preceded in death by siblings, Elias Sauceda; Juan Sauceda; Agustina Sauceda; Ramona Patlan; Maria Villegas; Guadalupe Resendes.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at St. Paul Catholic Church, Hamler with Fr. Nicholas Cunningham officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the church cemetery and a luncheon will follow in the church basement.
Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. on Friday, August 4, 2023 at Feehan-Rodenberger Funeral Home, Deshler with a Rosary Service at 7:30 p.m. There will also be visitation from 9:00-10:00 a.m. on Saturday prior to the mass in the church.
The family suggests memorials to St. Paul's Disciples of Christ.
