Maria Salaz Obituary

Maria D. Salaz

May 30, 1936 - November 20, 2025

Maria De La Luz Salaz, 89, of Deshler, Ohio passed away Thursday evening, November 20, 2025 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg, Ohio.

She was born on May 30, 1936 in Waelder, Texas to the late Pasquale and Carmen (Quintero) Salaz.

Maria retired from the former Claude Sintz factory in Deshler, Ohio and also worked at the former Oak Grove Nursing Home, Deshler.  She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Deshler.

Maria was a humble woman who found joy in being with others and expressed her love with food - so much delicious food.  Her authentic meals were at their best when she could share them with her family and friends.  She particulary loved family get togethers when the food was shared with laughter. Alongside her sister, Santiaga "Chaga", they were the preferred cooks for numerous weddings and Quinceaneras. She also often spoke fondly of the best days spent with her sister Felicita “Fela” and her sons at a cookout or bonfire, remembering how happy she was that everyone showed up – the good old days. In recent years, she always welcomed visitors with coffee and sweets; and was always prepared to almost magically whip up a meal complete with homemade tortillas. She enjoyed spending time tending to her flowers and plants and found peace in caring for them. She was strength and independence, a woman who faced life with quiet resilience and unwavering determination and faith. Her daughters would also like to extend their sincere thanks to everyone who checked in and helped with anything she needed - especially to her nieces and nephews. Your love and kindness did not go unnoticed.

She is survived by three daughters, Elida (Roy) Sensabaugh; Alamar (Ramon) Rubio; Rachel (Rob) Reimund; 11 grandchildren, Heriberto Lorenzo, Jr.; Alexander Lorenzo; Trisha Hernandez; Mark Morning; Marta Fuentes; Maribel Rubio; Ramon Rubio, Jr.; Michelle Rubio; Antonio Rubio; Alamar Saenz; Ryon Lester; 24 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; sisters, Alicia Martinez; Anita Salaz; Martina Salaz; Faustina Rodriquez and brothers, Ramiro Salaz; Oscar Salaz and Jesse Salaz.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Morning; son, Ruben De La Cruz; sisters, Felicita Contreras; Santiaga "Chaga" Carrizales and brothers, Jose Salaz; Pedro Salaz; Francisco Salaz; Nick Salaz and Julian Salaz.

A Spanish Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Fr. Juan Molina officiating.  Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Deshler.
