Marilyn Ann (Meyer) Basselman

Aug. 4, 1934  –  June 22, 2025

Marilyn Ann (Meyer) Basselman, 90, formerly of Deshler, passed away on June 22, 2025 at Vancrest Nursing Home, Holgate, Ohio.

She was born on August 4, 1934, to the late Rudolph and Pauline Meyer.   On July 29, 1956, she married Alfred Basselman at St. Stephens Lutheran Church in Hamler, Ohio. He preceded her in death. She was a faithful member of St. John Lutheran Church, Deshler.

Marilyn was a 1952 graduate of Hamler High School. In her younger years she was employed by Barhites Grocery in Hamler and Koppenhoffer Bros. in Deshler.  Marilyn and her husband, Alfred, were lifelong farmers and raised thousands of chickens. For many years Marilyn managed the family clothing store, Al’s Clothing in Deshler. After retiring she and Al enjoyed camping and traveling.

She is survived by 3 daughters, Cynthia (Archie) Carr; Debra (Steve) Dennie; Patricia (Lance) Wray; 8 grandchildren: Kimberly (Mike) Lynch; Jennifer (Adam) Disbro; Nicole (Nate) Carter; Ben (Christy) Dennie; Timothy (Andrea) Dennie; Samantha (Jon) Dorsey; Roxanne Johnson; Erik Johnson; 18 great grandchildren and 5 step great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Alfred, and her brother, Elwood Meyer.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on June 25, 2025 at St. John Lutheran Church, Deshler, Ohio. Burial will be in the church cemetery and a luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall.

Visitation will be from 3 – 7pm on June 24, 2025 at Feehan-Rodenberger Funeral Home, Deshler and 1 hour prior to the service at the church.

The family suggests memorials to St John Lutheran Church, Putnam County Hospice, or the Corn City Fire District.
