Norma Rosebrook Obituary

Norma A. Rosebrook

November 6, 1925 – October 16, 2024

Norma Anna Rosebrook, 98, of Deshler, Ohio passed away Wednesday morning, October 16, 2024 at the Bridge Hospice Care Center, Bowling Green, Ohio.

She was born November 6, 1925 in Bartlow Township, Henry County, Ohio to the late Mathias and Minnie (Tietje) Petersen.  Norma grew up with 5 siblings who have all preceded her in death:  Alfred Petersen; Matilda Bishop; Edwin Petersen; Victor Petersen and Robert Houser.  She was a 1944 graduate of Deshler High School.

On April 6, 1947 she married Melvin Rosebrook at St. John Lutheran Church, Deshler.  He preceded her in death on April 2, 1999.  They had 5 children who all survive:  Nancy Percy; Jerry (Brenda) Rosebrook; Shirley (Wayne) Sheperd; Lynette Rosebrook and Cheryl Rosebrook.  She was blessed with 11 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.  Grandchildren include:  Rich (April), Aaron (Darcy), Kristen (Alex), Kara (Jay), Brad (Amy), Greg (Amy), Lana (Benjamin), Keith (Jami), April (Kevin), Jamie (deceased), and Joel (Cassie).   Great grandchildren include:  Noah, Audriana, Grace, Jacob, Micah, John, Matthew, Samuel, Ella, Ian, Zack, Kendall, Molly, Brooke, Luke, Jake, Blake, Lani, Grahm, Ryder, Broxton, Waylon, Alex, Ophelia, and Lucian.

Norma was never one to allow her hands to be idle.  She was a dedicated homemaker and farm wife alongside her husband.  She worked seasonally for the former Dekalb Hybrids and then at the age of 55, she went to work in town at Scarbrough Pharmacy.  Here she could be found for the next 34 years, finally retiring at the age of 89.  Outside of work, Norma was a faithful member of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Deshler.

Much of Norma’s free time was spending countless hours in the kitchen baking and cooking.  With her own children, she would pick fruit and do lots of canning and freezing.  In her community, her skills were sought after for any occasion.  She was either contributing to the dinners and events at the Hamler American Legion, working with the Ladies Aide at her church or she was being called upon for her delicious German coffee cakes.  Whenever in the middle of her baking, she always made sure she had cookies to spoil her grandchildren.

She didn’t just keep her hands moving, she kept her mind sharp with puzzle books, word searches and adult coloring books.  When finally resting, she took time to enjoy the afternoon soap operas.  She was also an avid fan of Wheel of Fortune.  At Wood Haven Health Care, where she was a resident for the past 2 ½ years, she enjoyed the musical entertainment, Bingo, Christian hymn sing-a-long, and crafts.   Norma’s long life brought her many blessings.  She will be missed deeply and remembered fondly.  The family would like to thank the outstanding staff at Wood Haven and Bridge Hospice for their excellent care.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Deshler with Rev. Kurtis Freimuth officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery and a luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Monday, October 21, 2024 at Feehan-Rodenberger Funeral Home, Deshler and from 10-11 a.m., Tuesday at the church.
