Osiel “Ozzy” Vázquez Cruz
April 19, 1959 - July 22, 2025
It is with deep love and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved son, husband, brother, father, and grandfather. Ozzy, departed this world peacefully on July 22, after a courageous battle with MSA. He was 66 years old.
Born in Cuidad de Victoria, Mexico. Ozzy came to the United States with a heart full of hope and hands ready to work. He believed in the American dream—and he lived it. Through grit, sacrifice, and faith, he built a life of purpose and gave everything he had to his family. He was proud of where he came from and grateful for the opportunities he found. He worked over 25 years at the McComb Cookie factory and you could find him there 12 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide for his family here and back in Mexico. If he wasn’t at work, you could find him in a garage, listening to music, grilling out, and drinking his beer. He loved being with his family and friends and always knew how to make everyone laugh.
In his final years, Ozzy bravely fought the slow and difficult progression of muscular atrophy of the cerebellum. Though the illness took its toll, it never took his spirit. Surrounded by his loved ones, he left this world in peace, with the grace that defined his life. We take comfort in knowing that he is now dancing—free of pain—in the presence of the Lord.
He is survived by his mother, Elvia Vázquez Sias, his loving wife, Selenia Vásquez (Smith); his siblings, Irma Oralia Vázquez Cruz, Dora Nelly Vázquez Cruz, Jorge Vázquez Cruz, Elva Nora Vázquez Cruz, his children, Dustin Smith (Rebecca), Shailyn Taylor (Michael), Osiel Vásquez Jr, Hailey Shoemaker, Ana Storms (Travis), and Kijano Vásquez-Hill; his grandchildren, Akevian, Alahkai, Avijana, Xavier, Jackson, Oliver, Ezra, Lilly, Onna, and Zeke; and countless friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Rafael Vázquez Rodríguez; his sister Martha Idalia Vázquez Cruz; and his grandchildren, Kaijana and Lincoln.
Our lives are forever touched by his resilience and quiet strength. We will miss his laughter, his stories, and the unshakable love he gave so freely. His legacy lives on in the family he built, the lessons he taught, and the example he set.
A celebration of life will be held and announced by the family at a later date. They hope you will plan to come celebrate and share your stories with the family to remember how Ozzy was.

Rest in peace. You have fought your fight. You are home now—dancing in heaven.
