Philip J. Godeke
August 30, 1955 - April 20, 2026
Philip John Godeke, 70, of rural Custar, Ohio passed away Monday evening, April 20, 2026 at his residence with his daughter and sister by his side.
He was born August 30, 1955 in Findlay, Ohio to the late Wilbur and Velma (Biederstedt) Godeke. He was raised in a faithful home and a lifetime member of St. John Lutheran Church, Deshler where he previously served as a trustee. He was a 1974 graduate of Patrick Henry High School.
Phil worked for over 36 years at Modine Manufacturing in Pemberville, Ohio. He retired as a supervisor. He also enjoyed spending his time farming his family's small farm. In his spare time, he took pleasure in woodworking, carpentry, gardening and fishing. His father passed onto him the skill of being a competent radio repairman and he was often tinkering on several projects. He found time to develop a skill for golfing and joined many leagues through work and friendships.
Overall, Phil remained humble and kind. He took time to enjoy life, yet remained focused on his family as a constant presence and devoted provider.
He is survived by a daughter, Kelly Godeke; sister, Nancy (Daniel) Johnson; brother, Kenneth (Dawn) Godeke and brother-in-law, Paul Meyer.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Jennifer Godeke; sister, Judith Meyer and infant brother, William Godeke.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 23, 2026 at St. John Lutheran Church, Deshler with Rev. Steve Bauerle officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery and a luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall.
Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. prior to the services in the church.
The family suggests memorials to St. John Lutheran Church or Shriners Hospital.
