Raymond Hogrefe Obituary

Raymond C. Hogrefe
June 20, 1953 - July 4, 2025

Raymond Carl Hogrefe, 72, of Deshler, Ohio passed away Friday evening, July 4, 2025 at the Meadows of Leipsic, Ohio.
He was born June 20, 1953 in Napoleon, Ohio to the late Martin and Emma (Seemann) Hogrefe.
Ray was a 1971 graduate of  Patrick Henry High School and then honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.  He returned home and worked as a skilled carpenter alongside his cousins at Hogrefe Construction, Deshler.  His hard work and craftsmanship served the Deshler community and surrounding areas for many years.  He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Deshler and a very active member of the Deshler American Legion Post #316, where he served as a past commander and held many offices.
Ray was a devoted and loving father to his girls, Ashley and Whitney, who dearly miss him and the life lessons he imparted to them.  He took great pride in being a parent and was intent on raising his girls to be independent and capable. Whether it was setting them up for success playing sports or being able to use a hammer and tape measure, there were no shortage of lessons.
One thing Ray was unable to pass down to his girls was his incredible artistic talent. His home, and those of his loved ones, are filled with his one of a kind paintings and wood workings.
Ray was a proud and patient grandfather to his 5 granddaughters and 1 grandson. While physical limitations kept him from being present at a lot of activities, he watched countless live streams and videos of the kids doing the things they loved, offering praise, encouragement, and advice back to them.
As a long suffering Minnesota Vikings fan, Ray enjoyed nothing more than sitting down with an Old Milwaukee Light and a football game with his girls.
He is survived by his daughters, Ashley (Trevor) Schroeder and Whitney Nichols; 6 grandchildren, Serenity; Jaelynn; Willa; Brenley; Ricky and Aubrey; sisters, Linda Sharpe; Marilyn Baer; brothers, Martin (Karen) Hogrefe; John Hogrefe; Roger (Rhonda) Hogrefe and brother-in-law, Ronald Dietrich.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Norma Dietrich, brother, Harvey and brothers-in-law, John Sharpe and Terry Baer.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Feehan-Rodenberger Funeral Home, Deshler with Pastor Trent Boedicker officiating.  Graveside services with Military Honors will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Deshler.  Services will conclude with a fellowship luncheon at the Deshler American Legion Hall.  Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorials to Putnam County HomeCare and Hospice or the Deshler American Legion Post #316.
