Robert "Salty" Walther Obituary

Robert "Salty" Walther
July 12, 1944 - March 2, 2020

Robert Paul "Salty" Walther, 75, of Deshler, Ohio passed away Monday morning, March 2, 2020 with his wife and daughter by his side.
He was born in McComb, Ohio on July 12, 1944 to the late Harmon and Winifred (Ziessler) Walther.  On December 1, 1967 he married Pamela Miller and they have shared over 52 years together.
Robert was a 1963 graduate of Deshler High School.  He would serve his country from 1964-1973 in the U.S. Air Force with the 180th Fighter Squadron, Swanton, Ohio.
He always had an interest in law enforcement and he would retire as a correctional officer from Toledo Correctional.  He also previously worked at Lima Correctional, was a former Deshler Village Police Officer and a Special Deputy for the Henry County Sheriff.  His service to his community wouldn't end there, he was a past member of the Patrick Henry Local School Board, a former Mayor of Deshler, and the man that enjoyed handing out large candy bars at Trick-or-Treat.  He was a member of Deshler American Legion Post #316; a lifetime athletic booster of Patrick Henry and a member of the Bavarian Haus.
Robert will be remembered for his love of the Ohio State Buckeyes, Jeff Gordon and Nascar; John Deere Tractors or driving his Red Chevrolet Pickup Trucks.  However, his greatest passion was his family.  He began his "hobby job" with Kalamazoo Garden Solutions just so he could travel and work alongside his wife, Pam.  He would never miss a game and travel anywhere to watch his granddaughter, Anna cheerlead at Patrick Henry and Wilmington College.  His family will forever remember his presence and unwavering support.
He is survived by his loving wife, Pamela; daughter, Gena Bzovi; granddaughters, Anna Bzovi and Sadie Walther; sister, Nancy (Tom) Briggs; brothers, Larry (Mary Ann) Walther and James (Cyndy) Walther
He was preceded in death by his son, Shannon Walther on March 17, 2009.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Deshler with Fr. Art Niewiadomski officiating.  Graveside services with military honors will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Deshler.
Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. on Wednesday at Feehan-Rodenberger Funeral Home, Deshler and from 10-11 a.m., Thursday at the church.
Donations are suggested to the family's wishes to be determined after the services.
