Roger Weirich Obituary

Roger L. Weirich
August 19, 1956 - September 18, 2024

Roger Lee Weirich, 68, of Deshler, Ohio passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at his residence.
He was born on August 19, 1956 in Napoleon, Ohio to the late Robert and Florence (Shaw) Weirich.  Roger was a 1975 graduate of Liberty Center High School.  He was a proud member of his high school cross country team.
After high school, he enrolled in the Police Academy at Northwest State Community College.  Roger began his career as a part-time officer with the villages of Liberty Center and Holgate.  He eventually became the chief of police for the Village of Holgate and retired as their last officer in 2009.  Roger also worked at the former LDM factory, Napoleon, Ohio and most recently worked for Class Community Living and Support Services, Napoleon.  Roger worked as a job coach and retired in 2022.   He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Deshler.
On December 27, 1997 he married Tammy (Gerken) Weirich.  He was previously married to Dawn (Durham) and she preceded him in death in 1996.
His family will remember him for his love of football.  Locally he followed the Patrick Henry Patriots and his hometown, Liberty Center Tigers on Friday nights and then cheered for the Cleveland Browns on Sundays.  He enjoyed many years camping, especially the annual 4th of July trips to Rivers Edge in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.  Around home, he was always a handyman and would tackle any project even if it needed an occasional curse word or throwing of tools.  But above all he loved his family, adored his grandchildren and worshiped his faithful goldendoodle, Callie.  He would attend all their events, share his "Dad" jokes and use his trusty flip-phone to take pictures.
He is survived by his wife, Tammy; 3 children, Ashley (Andrew) Shanks; Micah (Jessica) Weirich; Madalin Weirich; 6 grandchildren, Bristol; Charlotte; Dakota; Renee; Amelia; Eloise; sister, Bonnie Worchuck; brother, Rick (Michele) Weirich and sister-in-law, Patsy Weirich.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Sue Ann Weirich and brother, Bobby Weirch.
Services will be held at 12 noon on Monday, September 23, 2024 at Feehan-Rodenberger Funeral Home, Deshler with Rev. Christopher Walter officiating.  Burial will follow in Riverview Memory Gardens, Defiance.  Visitation will be from 11 a.m. - 12 noon, prior to the services.
The family suggests memorials to Sufficient Grace Ministries, Deshler.
