Ronald Maas Obituary

Ronald L. Maas
September 9, 1941 - March 26, 2026

Ronald L. Maas, 84, of Deshler, Ohio passed away Thursday afternoon, March 26, 2026 at the Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay, Ohio.
He was born September 9, 1941 in Custar, Ohio to the late Charles "Chuck" and Helen (Schwab) Maas.  He grew up on a farm and from an early age developed a love for agriculture.  He graduated from Deshler High School in 1959 and immediately went to work at The Anderson's in Maumee, Ohio.  He worked there till 1966 and then he was given the opportunity to return home and work for the Deshler Farmer's Elevator.  Ron was a reliable and constant figure at the elevator and saw many changes for the next 51 years.  He spent most of his time as the branch manager of the Custar location and finally retired in 2017.
On October 20, 1962 he married Judith "Judy" Powell at his home church, St. Louis Catholic Church, Custar.  Together for over 63 years, Ron and Judy built a lifetime of memories built around their family.
Ron was an active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Deshler where he served on the finance committee and hospitality committee.  For over 57 years, Ron was a member of the Deshler Volunteer Fire Department.  He served as assistant fire chief and the department's secretary and treasurer.  For his dedication, he was recognized as a Hometown Hero and he was always proud that his sons and grandsons followed in his footsteps and became firemen.  Alongside the Fire Department, Ron was also a driver for the former Deshler EMS for over 40 years.  He was a lifetime member of Patrick Henry Athletic Boosters; a former Deshler Little League coach for his sons; and spent many years participating in bowling leagues and softball leagues.  His impact and service to his community will always be remembered.
As a family man, Ron was always proud of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He never missed a grandchild's sporting event or activity.  They could always count on Grandpa being in the stands or audience.  Every fall he looked forward to deer hunting season and spending time with family members and close friends.  He enjoyed a house with a good pet dog and an evening at the horse races.  He will forever be loved and remembered by those he shared his life with.
He is survived by his wife, Judy; children, Dean (Kristine) Maas; Jackie (Jon) Bower; Steven Maas; five grandchildren, Clay (Emily) Maas; Drew (Turner) Maas; Austin (Elizabeth) Bower; Rylee Bower; Remi (Andrew) Renner; four great grandchildren, Wren; Novak; Nora; Noelle; brothers, David (Ruth) Maas; Marvin (Kayleen Adler) Maas; sister-in-law, Mary Maas and mother-in-law, Mary Powell
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Gene Maas; sister-in-law, Carol Maas and father-in-law, Howard "Fuzz" Powell.
A Mass Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 30, 2026 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Deshler with Fr. Art Niewiadomski officiating.  Graveside services will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Deshler.
Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Sunday, March 29, 2026 at Feehan-Rodenberger Funeral Home, Deshler where a Fireman's Last Call Service will be held at 7 p.m.  Visitation will also be from 10-11 a.m., Monday at the church.
