Ruth Badenhop Smith

November 10, 1935 – April 14, 2023

Ruth Ellen Badenhop-Smith, 87 of Delta, Ohio and formerly of Deshler, Ohio passed away Friday evening, April 14, 2023 at Ayden Healthcare of Wauseon, Ohio.

She was born November 10, 1935 in Deshler, Ohio to the late William and Louise (Yungmann) Meienburg.

Ruth was a 1953 graduate of Deshler High School.  On August 21, 1955 she married Werner “Dewey” Badenhop and he preceded her in death on October 4, 1998.  She then married Ralph Smith of Delta on August 17, 1999 and he also preceded her in death on November 19, 2016.

Ruth worked for over 24 years at the former Sherwin Williams/Deshler Products factory, retiring in 1997.  She had also previously worked at the TemCole Radish  of McClure and briefly at the Campbell Soup Company, Napoleon.

She was a faithful lifetime member of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Deshler and was a former organist.  She enjoyed baking and cooking and traveling.

She is survived by her two children, Thomas (Kathleen) Badenhop and Tara Welling; 9 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 1 step great grandchild and 2 great great grandchildren.  She is also survived by her second husband, Ralph’s children and their families, Tim (Ella) Shelley and Tom (Lois) Childress.

She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Scott Welling and sister, Doris Kuesel.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 20, 2023 at Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Deshler with Rev. Kurtis Freimuth officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery and a fellowship luncheon will follow.

Visitation will be from 10-11:30 a.m., Thursday prior to the services in the church.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Promedica Hospice, Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church or the Down Syndrome Association of Greater Toledo.
