Stephen P. Scharf
October 3, 1949 - April 8, 2022
Stephen Paul Scharf, 72, of Deshler, Ohio passed away Friday, April 8, 2022 at the Bridge Hospice Care Center, Bowling Green, Ohio.
He was born October 3, 1949 in Freeport, Illinois to the late Paul and Lois (Shoesmith) Scharf.
Steve was a 1967 graduate of Deshler High School. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was proud of his service with the 82nd Airborne as a Combat Medic and paratrooper. In 1989 he married Linda (Monteith) Scharf.
Steve was a millwright and worked many years with Tuttle Construction and also with Stout Construction. He was also an owner with his friends of the former Black Swamp Inn in Deshler.
He was a member of the Deshler American Legion Post #316 and the United Brotherhood of Carpenters, Millwrights and Pile Drivers Local 1090.
Steve's greatest pastime was having a project to breakdown and fix backup. Especially the restoration of his 1947 Piper PA-12 airplane, Indian motorcycles and even an old Army Jeep. Steve was an avid reader and enjoyed challenging cribbage games. His family will remember him for his unconditional love and his pleasant humorous nature.
He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Scharf, daughter, Nichole Thompson, Lost Creek, WV; Linda's son, Wade Guelde, Waldron, MI; 7 granddaughters, Jessica Coffman; Alicia Upton; Danette Boecker; Dena Guelde; Megan Guelde; Marissa Wagner; Britni Junge; 19 great grandchildren; and two sisters, Jean Baden, Deshler and Stella Scharf, Columbus, Ohio.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 14, at 5 p.m. at the Feehan-Rodenberger Funeral Home, Deshler. Pastor Richard Betts will officiate and military honors will be accorded by Deshler American Legion Post #316.
Visitation will be from 4-5 p.m. prior to the service in the funeral home.
The family suggests memorials to Flag City Honor Flight, Findlay, Ohio.
