Thomas Spears Obituary

Thomas James Spears
October 26, 1941 – September 24, 2025

Thomas James Spears, age 83, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2025.  Born on October 26, 1941, he was the beloved son of Helen and brother to John and Sister Helen Francis, OSF.
Tom was a proud graduate of Central Catholic High School.  He went on to serve his country in the United States Army, an experience that instilled in him a strong sense of duty and resilience that he carried throughout his life.
After his service, Tom built a fulfilling career as a semi-truck driver, dedicating over 40 years to Foodtown and other companies.  His work ethic and reliability earned him respect from colleagues and friends alike.
He married the love of his life, Marilyn, after a chance meeting at McDonald’s.  Their bond grew into a lifelong partnership, filled with love, laughter, and devotion.  Together, Tom had two children from a previous marriage, Todd (Dana) Spears and Lisa Spears, and created a family legacy grounded in kindness and connection.
Tom was a cherished grandfather to Alec Spears, Sienna (Jake) Krise, Dylan Mikonowicz, Isabella Spears, Gunner Spears, Amanda Spears, and Kyle Spears, and a proud great-grandfather to four great-grandchildren.  His family was his greatest joy.
Outside of work and family, Tom had a deep love for softball, both playing and coaching men’s teams for many years.  Known for his friendly and outgoing nature, he never met a stranger—he could talk to anyone for hours, leaving a lasting impression on all who crossed his path.
In his later years, Tom especially enjoyed Thursday mornings with his breakfast group, a tradition that brought him joy and fellowship.
Tom’s legacy is one of love, service, dedication, and community. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, September 29, 2025 at Milton Township Cemetery, Custar, Ohio.  Following the services, family and friends are invited for dinner and fellowship at Miss Lily's in Grand Rapids, Ohio.
