Walter Gordon Obituary

Walter J. Gordon

February 20, 1932 – April 16, 2023

Walter Joseph Gordon, 91, of Findlay, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 16, 2023 at The Christian Village at Mason, Ohio. He was an amazing, quiet gentleman who left a trail of kindness and compassion with everyone who met him.

Walter was born on his family farm on February 20, 1932 in Deshler, Ohio to the late Raymond and Agnes (Konzen) Gordon.  On May 25, 1957 he married the late Ramona (Breece) Gordon, and they shared over 63 wonderful years together.

Walter graduated from Deshler High School in 1950, and he cherished his time playing baseball and playing the trumpet in the school’s marching band, especially since Ramona was the head majorette.  He also had fond memories of being a member of the Corn City Slickers polka band that played for dances all over Northwest Ohio.

Walter served in the U.S. Navy as a radio man, during the Korean War.  His tour of duty in the Pacific gave this “small town farm kid” the chance to see the world, including time in Alaska, Hawaii, Hong Kong and Guam, and a chance to attend college afterward using the G.I. Bill.

Walter graduated from Indiana Tech in 1960, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.  He soon began a long, rewarding career working for the RCA/GE/Harris Corporations at the Findlay plant for 36 years.  There he became an expert in electronic semiconductor manufacturing process control.

He loved his engineering work, but his family was his greatest joy.  He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Walter is survived by children, Laura (Kent) Jackson, Lexington, Kentucky; John (Sue) Gordon, Cincinnati; Joyce (Scott) McBride, Bucyrus; grandchildren; Gregory (Michelle) Jackson, Mark (Kristen) Jackson; Julie Jackson; Gina (Tony) Neumann, Claire (James) DeGraw, Ellen (Anthony) Steffen, Amy (Nelson) Wong; Alyse McBride, Christy McBride, Matthew McBride; 8 great grandchildren; brother Don Gordon; sister Sr. Madelyn Marie Gordon, R.S.M.; and sister-in-law DeeDee Breece.

Walter was preceded in death by brother Bob (Lee) Gordon, sisters Mary (Bob) Haffner, Helen Rita (Sylvester) Neiling, Catherine (Francis) Gerschutz, and Clara (Don) Pittelkow, brothers-in-law Louie Breece, Ben (Midge) Breece, and sister-in-law Becky (Grant) Straley.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, April 22 at 11 am at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 750 Bright Road, Findlay, with visitation prior to Mass from 10 to 11 am at the church. There will be a luncheon at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 701 West Main Cross St., Findlay immediately following the Mass.  Graveside services will take place at 2:30 pm at Woodlawn Cemetery, Deshler.
