Walter Shiffert Obituary

Walter M. Shiffert
May 7, 1950 - December 3, 2025

Walter Martin Shiffert, 75, of rural Deshler, Ohio passed away Wednesday night, December 3, 2025 in the comfort of his own home, surrounded by his loving family.
Walt was born at home in Webster Township, Wood County, Ohio on May 7, 1950 to the late Ellsworth and Pauline (Dannenberger) Shiffert.  He grew up with one brother, John and he also preceded him in death.
He was a 1970 graduate of Eastwood High School.  Walt worked 2nd shift in the maintenance department at the Campbell's Soup Company, Napoleon for over 27 years.  He retired in 2013.
On December 1, 1979 he married Anita (Heckerman) Shiffert and they were blessed with 46 years of marriage.  He is survived by his loving wife; his son, Allen (Coleen) Shiffert; six grandchildren, Nick Lojewski; Gavin Lojewski; Christiana Lojewski; Shelby Hillard; Ashley Shiffert; Allen Shiffert, Jr.; his brothers-in-law, Leonard Heckerman; John (Joan) Heckerman; Ted Heckerman (Heather Wildman) and sisters-in-law, Leanna Young and Laurel (Fred) McCullough.
He was also preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Sally Heckerman; father-in-law, Cloyce "Dutch" Heckerman; brother-in-law, David Heckerman and sister-in-law, Joyce Oliver.
Walt was a farm-boy at heart who found life best when spending time at home with those he loved.  He enjoyed practicing woodworking and took great pride in putting out a nice vegetable garden.  His gardening skills led to fun filled days of canning with his wife and even the the occasion satisfaction of peeling potatoes and apples.  Walt was a good role model and teacher to his son and grandkids.  He had a firm hand on things, but was always ornery and shared his sense of humor with everyone.  He was known to pick on just about anyone, especially his adored grandchildren.  His presence was always there and he showed up whenever he was needed.  At times he may have had his own style of showing his love, but you always felt it.  He will forever be loved and remembered by his family and those who he shared life with.
Per his wishes, there will be no public services.  If you wish to remember him, the family suggests memorial donations to the Bridge Hospice and you are encouraged to share messages and memories at www.feehanrodenbergerfuneralhome.com.
