William "Bill" VanScoyoc Obituary

William "Bill" VanScoyoc

August 3, 1952 - April 11, 2020

William Rae “Bill” VanScoyoc, 67, of Deshler, Ohio passed away Saturday morning, April 11, 2020 at the Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay, Ohio.

Bill was born August 3, 1952 in Bowling Green, Ohio, the son of Robert and Lucille (Stateler) VanScoyoc.

He was a 1970 graduate of Patrick Henry High School.  Bill was a self-employed carpenter and operated VanScoyoc Construction throughout his career.  He was a lifetime member of Oakdale United Methodist Church, Deshler and a current member of the Deshler Zoning Board of Appeals.  He was known for his particular craftsmanship and woodworking, including building his own home shortly after graduating high school, in which he lived and raised his family until his passing.

Bill loved the arts and outdoors, and was an excellent dancer and cook, a lifelong advocate of family dinner.  He was a devoted son, visiting with his parents daily and always working to make their lives better.  He was brilliant and would have been an excellent Jeopardy contestant.  He was a loving and proud father, always bragging about his children's achievements, and he worked above all else to provide them with the best education possible.

He would regularly find and build "fixes" for his daughter's home, always searching for ways to help and improve her life.  He was an active and involved grandfather, teaching the boys to use tools (including power drills), count money, and fish.  He didn't shy away from their requests to play board games or yet another game of Pig in basketball.  He will be truly missed.

He is survived by his children, Jennifer (Chad) Whitmore and Jeremiah VanScoyoc; his mother, Lucille VanScoyoc; grandsons, Noah and Cole Whitmore; partner, Nancy Eidson; brother, John (Connie) VanScoyoc; and sister, Charlene Rettig.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert VanScoyoc.

A graveside service for family will occur at a later time.  Bill will be memorialized next to his father at McComb Union Cemetery, McComb.

Memorials are suggested to Toledo Metroparks and any donations or cards can be mailed to Feehan-Rodenberger Funeral Home, P.O. Box 196, Deshler, Ohio 43516.
